We offer a highly effective 1540nm fractional laser treatment for melasma on the face and body, which has replaced IPL as the top recommendation for melasma patients. IPL is no longer recommended for melasma patients, and can often worsen the pigmentation. Likewise, oral and topical medications are usually ineffective because the abnormal pigment cells (melanocytes) are often found too deep in the skin to be affected by topical medications.
