Superior Results in Asian Breast Augmentation with Teardrop Shaped Gummy Bear Implants

290cc Teardrop Gummy Bear Implant: 3/4 View

Breast augmentation in Asian women is often more difficult and challenging, and it requires a superior implant for superior results.

Asian women often have very little natural breast tissue, poorly defined folds under the breasts (or sometimes no folds at all), and sometimes prominent asymmetry of the breasts and underlying rib cage. All of these anatomic factors make breast augmentation in Asian women far more difficult than the average breast augmentation case.

In my experience, the teardrop shaped Gummy Bear Implants provide a far superior result in the Asian breast augmentation population. The teardrop implants provide far better expansion of the lower pole of the breast, which is essentially non-existent in many of my Asian patients, and give a far more natural upper pole, especially in profile. The teardrop gummy bears also do a significantly better job creating a sharply defined fold under each breast, which is critically important for a natural, pleasing result.

The two photo galleries below compare the results between two patients that are the same age, height, weight, starting cup size, and final implant volume. The only different is that the first patient had smooth round moderate profile silicone implants, and the second patient had textured gummy bear teardrop shaped implants. The starting appearance in the “Before” photos is fairly typical for young Asian women in my practice, although the results are very good in both cases, the final result is far superior with the teardrop gummy bear implants in the second photo gallery.

The Gummy Bear Implants do a significantly better job expanding the extremely tight skin, correcting asymmetries, defining the new inframammary folds (folds under the breasts), and creating a soft and natural looking slope in the upper chest.

Better Breast Implants with The Playmate Breast Augmentation Technique

Before and After breast implant exchange surgery

This is a 32 year old woman who wanted sexier, larger breast implants without looking over the top or unnatural. She elected to undergo a breast implant revision surgery using the Playmate Breast Augmentation Technique that is specifically designed to handle the issue of placing larger size breast implants with a natural, sexy appearance.

Her 350cc saline implants were replaced with Inspira Full Profile SRF 560cc silicone implants, and this is the result at 3 weeks after surgery. Even though her implants are more than 200cc larger, they actually look more natural, more symmetric, and more proportional. This kind of result can only be accomplished with the Playmate Technique in which the implant is placed in a way that allows it to sit in a natural position even though it is a significantly larger than average size.

In addition to the size increase, and more central cleavage, the position of her nipples has been corrected so that they no longer appear to be pointing down. The end result is incredibly sexy, but natural at the same time. And because she chose the new Inspira implants, her breasts have the ultra natural feel of the teardrop implants, but the appearance of a full profile round shape.

Labiaplasty to Look Better in Yoga Pants?

Labiaplasty surgery to look better in yoga pants

As yoga pants become more and more popular, so have labiaplasty procedures.

The size, shape and symmetry of the labia affect the contour visible in tight fitting clothing like yoga pants and tights, and a larger than average contour– sometimes referred to as a bulge or camel toe– can be an unwelcome source of anxiety and self-consciousness. The benefits of having “Designer Vaginal Surgery” also extend beyond the realm of cosmetics. Unusually large or asymmetric labia can cause difficultly in grooming, and can cause discomfort during activities that place pressure on the area like sex or an intense spin class with frequent sitting on a hard and narrow seat.

The procedure takes about 45-90 minutes, and although it can be performed under local anesthesia, it is worth considering a gentle twilight anesthetic for the most comfortable experience possible. It’s a very sensitive area, and it’s not necessarily something that every woman would want to be awake for, but it is very possible to do so if your budget is more limited than you would like.

There are typically no stitches to remove– they all dissolve– and there is no real “downtime”. The surgical area will be sore and sensitive for a few weeks, but this does not typically impact normal daily activities. Taking a day or two off of work after the procedure is recommended, but not necessary as long as your job does not require a great deal of physical activity.

Widely Spaced Nipples and Breast Augmentation

before and after photo 2 months after breast augmentation

Widely spaced nipples and areolas is a common issue with women of all ages, and many of these women wonder if breast augmentation can treat this problem.

The answer is both Yes and No. Breast implants cannot decrease the space between widely spaced nipples, but it can improve the appearance of the breasts and torso so much that this wide space is not so noticeable. The only way to physically decrease the space between the nipples is to perform a breast lift style operation that results in scars all the way around the areolae, which is usually not an attractive option for most women who are interested in breast augmentation where the scars are normally so well hidden.

Keep in mind that widely spaced nipples is a very different issue from widely spaced breasts and/or breast implants. An excessively wide space between breast implants is a very unattractive look, and is very easy to avoid with appropriate implant selection and surgical technique. This is not the same issue as widely spaced nipples though, so try not to confuse these two concepts.

Before and After Teardrop Gummy Bear Implants

Before and After teardrop gummy bear implants
Many women wonder how soon new breast implants start looking good, and here is a great example.

This is a 32 year old woman who had a Playmate Breast AugmentationTM with Natrelle teardrop gummy bear (Style 410, Full Height, Full Projection) 335cc breast implants, under the muscle. This is the result at only three weeks after surgery. The skin below her nipple will continue to stretch and round out over time, the implants will continue to soften, and continue to look better and better all the way to a full two years after her procedure.

Her procedure was quite difficult in that she had so little natural breast tissue to begin with, and because she was using a sizable breast implant with a great deal of projection. Cases like this are our specialty here at MAS, and this is where the Playmate Technique shines as one of our most popular offerings.

1 Day, 1 Week, and 3 Weeks after The Playmate Breast Augmentation

Playmate breast augmentation before and after photo
One of the most common questions I answer is “How long until new breast implants start looking good?”

I tell my patients that, in my practice, breast implants follow the rule of 3’s…

  • They look GOOD in 3 days
  • They look GREAT in 3 weeks
  • They look AMAZING in 3 months

The photo series you see above goes a few steps above the rule of 3’s. If you look closely, you see not a single bruise in the 24 hour photo, and by 3 weeks her implants already look amazing. She had 457cc moderate profile smooth round implants placed under the muscle using The Playmate Breast Augmentation technique to ensure that such large implants would still look natural on such a small frame.

Breast Augmentation after Breast Lift

breast augmentation after mastopexy

Breast lift procedures can sometimes leave women frustrated with a lack of cleavage and perkiness 3-6 months after the operation.

The results can look quite good initially, but over a relatively short period of time the breasts can stretch, sag, and droop in a way that makes it difficult to create the cleavage that most women were hoping for after investing the time and money in a mastopexy procedure. Breast augmentation can be performed after breast lift surgery to restore the perkiness and cleavage in a more permanent way, and when performed by a plastic surgeon who specializes in breast implants, the procedure can be extremely satisfying with a simple recovery and no additional scarring. A secondary procedure may also give you a chance to have unsightly scars revised, or to even out asymmetric areolas, both of which occur frequently after breast lifts.

If you are not satisfied with the results of your breast lift, consider learning more about breast implants after breast lift surgery. It’s an excellent option for many women who wish their lifted breasts had stayed “lifted” for a longer period of time.

Kybella (ATX 101) for Double Chin Available Summer 2015

Kythera Pharmaceuticals logo

Kythera Biopharmaceuticals, the company that makes Kybella (also known as ATX 101), was recently acquired by aesthetic giant Allergan who produces other top injectables like Botox and Juvederm.

Many injectable specialists like myself are very excited about this acquisition because Allergan has an excellent reputation for top-notch research and development, quality control, and continued product improvements. I think this means that we are very likely to see a high-quality product with sound clinical research on the release date to be announced in summer/fall of 2015.

This product release has been highly anticipated by the public for quite some time as a possible game changer for the dreaded double chin and our office is already flooded with inquiries about this treatment.

How Breast Implants Drop and Settle

How breast implants settle over time after breast augmentation surgeryDropping, settling, and “fluffing”, are the most common terms used to describe the single most important phenomenon in breast augmentation surgery.

As the skin beneath the nipple stretches, it allows the breast to take on a rounder, more attractive shape, and also allows the implant to drop or settle into a more natural position. This improves the slope in the upper pole of the breast, and is the final step towards having your true “final result”. For most women, this settling process is 70-80% complete around 3-4 months after surgery, and 100% complete at 9-12 months.

Keep Reading to see more of this series of photos showing how breast implants drop and settle over time in one of our actual patients…

When can I exercise after breast augmentation surgery?

working out after breast augmentationThe majority of our breast augmentation clientele is quite active, so we frequently field questions about getting back to the gym and other physical activity after surgery.

The recommendations for when to get back to the gym after breast augmentation surgery depend on what type of procedure you had, what type of implants you have, and in which position those implants were placed. There is no universal set of guidelines for every breast augmentation patient. The recommendations for each patient in our practice are as customized as our procedures, so if you had your procedure in another office, please consult with your surgeon before following any of the recommendations offered here.

What kind of anesthesia is best for liposuction?

anesthesia for liposuctionOne of the most common questions we receive in our office is “What type of anesthesia is best for liposuction?”

This is a very important question because there are a variety of options available for a variety of reasons, not all of which have safety and comfort at the top of the priority list. That’s not to say that the more expensive option is always the better option because that’s not always true, but your decision about which anesthesia method to select should not be based on price alone, nor should it be based on the myth that local anesthesia is always the safest method (this is also not always true). The best anesthesia for liposuction should provide a good balance between cost, comfort, safety, and affording your surgeon the ability to do the best job he can so you get the best result possible.

The best anesthesia method will allow all of the above to be possible, so there is no need to cut corners as long as you have the facts. Keep reading to learn more about the anesthesia options for liposuction and other cosmetic procedures…

The Top 5 Changes for Your Summer Skin Care Routine

Treating your summer skin care routine the same as every other time of the year is the same as using your shampoo to wash your face… just because it’s the easiest option doesn’t mean it’s the best choice.

The sun will dry and sensitize your skin leading to burns and sun damage, and the heat will make you more prone to sweating and oil production leading to breakouts and blemishes. Summer is also everyone’s favorite time for exercise and outdoor activities, so it’s important to practice good skin care habits even when you’re on the go. Fortunately this is all as easy as five quick summer skin care tips that you might not have thought about as you transition into the sunny time of the year.

Faster Recovery and Smaller Scar with the No Touch Breast Augmentation

Keller Funnel No Touch Breast Augmentation by rapid recovery breast augmentation specialist Dr Nicholas Vendemia of MASWe take breast augmentation surgery very seriously here at MAS, and the Keller Funnel is a serious device for women interested in the safest, quickest, and least traumatic insertion technique for breast implants.

The No Touch Breast Augmentation is redefining the standard for safety and sterility with breast implant surgery of all types (breast augmentation, breast implant exchange, breast implant revision, and breast reconstruction), and in our practice we consider it to be the gold standard for all of our breast augmentation procedures. When the funnel is used properly, the implants are transferred directly from the manufacturer’s sterile container into the sterile funnel and into the breast pocket without being touched by human hands or any other possible contaminants, hence the “No Touch” designation. The funnels advanced hydrophilic coating protects the implant shell during the transfer, and allows the implant to pass through a smaller incision (which translates into a smaller scar) in a way that is far less traumatic than finger insertion (which leads to a shorter recovery time).

Keep reading for more information and a video demonstration of the Keller Funnel in action and see how it compares to traditional finger insertion techniques.

Deoxycholic Acid (ATX-101, Kybella) Injections for a Double Chin

Deoxycholic acid injections for double chinATX-101 (also known as Kybella), which is the study designation given to deoxycholic acid manufactured by Kythera Pharmaceuticals, is an injectable substance that kills fat cells and is being marketed as a potential magic bullet for double chins. The product recently got it FDA approval for use in the cosmetic industry, but only time will tell if it proves to be a miracle worker or just another fad that fades from the market as quickly as it surfaces.

The FDA approval means only that the product has not been shown to be dangerous in human subjects, but that does not mean that it will produce a great aesthetic result, or that it will replace gold standard approaches to treating double chins like liposuction, liposculpting, or platysma muscle repairs commonly performed with neck lift operations.

In fact, over dissolving the submental (under the chin) fat may lead to a hollowed central neck and an exaggerated appearance of vertical platysma muscle bands that appear with age. Losing too much fat in the neck can be a very difficult problem to correct, which is why most facial surgeons do not remove as much fat from the neck during facial surgery as they used to several decades ago.

Botox for Migraines: How effective is this treatment?

botox for migraines treatment in new yorkA recent article on Doximity.com offered some excellent advice for those of us who suffer from migraine headaches, but ironically left out one of the simplest and most effective treatments… Botox.

Using Botox to treat migraine headaches remains a dramatically underutilized approach for a variety of reasons. Many people aren’t aware that this is a treatment option, or even if they are they find it difficult to find enough information to make an educated decision about whether or not Botox will work for them. There are also great variations in dosing and technique between different physicians, so it’s often difficult to judge how effective the treatment is.

Botox for migraine therapy is quite popular in our practice, and we’ve had such an excellent success rate with treating even the most severe cases, that we thought it would be beneficial to outline the excellent advice set forth by several migraine researchers across the country in the above referenced article, and to briefly discuss what we feel to be the most effective treatment out there.

Keep reading for more information about what you can do to decrease the frequency and severity of your migraine headaches…

Don’t Delay Removing PIP Breast Implants

PIP breast implants Many of you will remember the recent scandal brought on by French breast implant maker Poly Implant Prosthese (PIP) when the company was disbanded and the executives jailed over their unethical practices of using non-medical grade silicone to manufacture their silicone breast implants sold throughout the world.

It is estimated that 30,000-40,000 women received PIP breast implants that may have caused, or may be causing, unknown and possibly dangerous side effects because of the likely contamination of the silicone gel used in these implants. When the story broke, we received quite a few calls from understandably worried women who wanted to know how they could tell if they had PIP implants, and what they should do about it if they did. We removed quite a few pairs of these implants during that time period, and helped several of these women deal with complications like severe capsular contractors, recurrent seromas (fluid collections), and PIP breast implant ruptures, but since that time we’ve noticed a dropoff in both the frequency of these calls, and in the sense of urgency on the calls that still come in.

If you or anyone you know had breast implants place in any country other than the United States in the past 20-25 years, please keep reading for an important reminder about the dangers of PIP implants, and why you should be concerned even if you aren’t sure if you have them…

It’s nice to see an initiative like this because there hasn’t been much thought in the world of SPF in recent years, and with our ozone depleting, and more of the damaging rays making it to our skin, it’s more important than ever to know how to protect it. The shelves of any Duane Read are lined with so many product choices that it can make your head spin, so anything that can narrow down those choices for us and give us some direction when it comes to sun protection, is a very good thing.
