Labiaplasty, which is also referred to as “Designer Vagina Surgery”, is becoming a very popular cosmetic procedure among women of all ages, but especially women between the ages of 18 and 35. The procedure can make the labia smaller, more symmetrical, and more attractive with a relatively simple and easy recovery process and a pain-free experience.

What are the most common reasons for having labiaplasty?
There are a variety of reasons that women choose to have labiaplasty, but the most common reasons are:
- Large or Uneven Labia Minora: Large and/or uneven labia minora (inner labia) are the most common reason for labiaplasty. Large or uneven labia minora can be a source of insecurity for many women, and can also cause pain during intercourse. Extremely large labia minora can cause a “bulge” in tight clothing, which is a very common reason why women consider the procedure.
- Large or Uneven Labia Majora: Large or uneven labia majora can also contribute to an unsightly bulge in tight clothing, and be a source of insecurity for many women. A labiaplasty for labia majora is a slightly different procedure than for the labia minora, but the results are just as satisfying to women who have it done.
- Painful Intercourse Due to Large Labia: Very large, or very uneven, labia minora can get in the way during sexual intercourse and cause pain, and a labiaplasty can sometimes help this issue as long as the pain is actually due to the size of the labia and not another more serious issue. It is important to note that pain during intercourse may not always be due to the physical size of the labia, and in these cases labiaplasty will not improve the pain or improve your sexual satisfaction.
How long does labiaplasty surgery take?
Dr. Vendemia can perform a labiaplasty in about 60 minutes, and although it can be done under local anesthesia in the office setting, you may prefer to have twilight anesthesia for the best overall experience.
How long is the recovery after labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a fairly straightforward procedure with minimal downtime, and no stitches to take out, so most patients are able to return to work in a few days. However, it is necessary to avoid hot tubs, swimming pools, and all sexual activity for at least 6 weeks after the procedure.
