Liquid Rhinoplasty for a Better Bridge

Nonsurgical rhinoplasty, sometimes referred to as a “Liquid Rhinoplasty”, is increasing in popularity for both men and women interested in improving the appearance of their noses without surgery.

One of the best uses for liquid rhinoplasty techniques is to define or build up a flattened nasal bridge. A flat bridge can throw the entire middle section of the face out of balance, so restoring the bridge with a liquid rhinoplasty can be a very powerful, but also very subtle, way to reestablish harmony and proportion to the face as a whole, not just the nose.

What can a Liquid Rhinoplasty do?

There are a few things that a nonsurgical rhinoplasty can do just as well (or better) than a surgical rhinoplasty:

  • Build up a weak bridge. Liquid Rhinoplasty is an excellent alternative to surgery for building up a weak nasal bridge. The process can be very well controlled with an injectable filler, and the results can be outstanding when your surgeon has an artistic eye and a steady hand.
  • Disguise a crooked bridge. Subtle curves and contours can be disguised with an injectable filler, not corrected, but disguised.
  • Add a small amount of definition to the tip. Some people may benefit from having an injectable filler added to the nose to enhance tip definition, but it is important to understand that liquid rhinoplasty is much better suited to the bridge of the nose and should be used with caution in the tip.
  • Disguise minor contour irregularities. Minor bumps and soft tissue irregularities can occur after trauma or surgery, and liquid rhinoplasty is an excellent way to disguise them as an alternative to, or in conjunction with, surgical rhinoplasty.

What can’t a Liquid Rhinoplasty do?

Although a liquid rhinoplasty is an excellent nonsurgical way to address some of the problems listed above, it does have limits, and sometimes a surgical rhinoplasty is the only way to achieve your goals:

  • Reducing the bridge or a hump. By definition, a liquid rhinoplasty adds volume to the nose, so a nonsurgical rhinoplasty cannot reduce the size of anything. It can disguise certain things like a large hump or wide bridge, but only surgery can reduce these structures.
  • Reducing the size of the nose. The overall size of the nose, especially the tip, is one of the most common reasons that people seek rhinoplasty procedures. As discussed above, the liquid procedure adds volume to the nose, so it cannot reduce the size of anything. I can be used to create better symmetry and proportion, which may lead to the appearance of a smaller nose, but it cannot physically reduce the size or volume.
  • Straightening a crooked nose. A truly crooked nose can only be repaired with surgery. Very minor crooked appearances can be disguised temporarily with a liquid rhinoplasty, but only surgery can correct a crooked nose and/or a deviated septum.
  • Reducing a boxy or bulbous tip. Liquid rhinoplasty should never be used to correct a boxy or bulbous tip. It will only make the problem worse. It should also not be used to lift a droopy tip since it will not accomplish this, and it will only make a surgical rhinoplasty more difficult.
  • Reducing the size of the nostrils. Liquid rhinoplasty cannot influence the size or position of the nostrils in any reliable way. Only a surgical rhinoplasty can accomplish this.
  • Correcting breathing problems. Injectable fillers should not be injected inside the nose or into the septum for breathing problems. These issue require functional rhinoplasty surgery.
