Before and After breast implant exchange surgery

This is a 32 year old woman who wanted sexier, larger breast implants without looking over the top or unnatural. She elected to undergo a breast implant revision surgery using the Playmate Breast Augmentation Technique that is specifically designed to handle the issue of placing larger size breast implants with a natural, sexy appearance.

Her 350cc saline implants were replaced with Inspira Full Profile SRF 560cc silicone implants, and this is the result at 3 weeks after surgery. Even though her implants are more than 200cc larger, they actually look more natural, more symmetric, and more proportional. This kind of result can only be accomplished with the Playmate Technique in which the implant is placed in a way that allows it to sit in a natural position even though it is a significantly larger than average size.

In addition to the size increase, and more central cleavage, the position of her nipples has been corrected so that they no longer appear to be pointing down. The end result is incredibly sexy, but natural at the same time. And because she chose the new Inspira implants, her breasts have the ultra natural feel of the teardrop implants, but the appearance of a full profile round shape.

This short video demonstrates the No-Touch Breast Augmentation technique using the Keller Funnel and the newest breast implants, the Inspira model with an ultra natural, fuller silicone fill that lessens the likelihood of rippling and improves the feel of the augmented breast. The implant used here is a 450cc Full-Profile Inspira, and as you can see, the result on the table is stunning, even before the procedure is complete.

Before and After teardrop gummy bear implants
Many women wonder how soon new breast implants start looking good, and here is a great example.

This is a 32 year old woman who had a Playmate Breast AugmentationTM with Natrelle teardrop gummy bear (Style 410, Full Height, Full Projection) 335cc breast implants, under the muscle. This is the result at only three weeks after surgery. The skin below her nipple will continue to stretch and round out over time, the implants will continue to soften, and continue to look better and better all the way to a full two years after her procedure.

Her procedure was quite difficult in that she had so little natural breast tissue to begin with, and because she was using a sizable breast implant with a great deal of projection. Cases like this are our specialty here at MAS, and this is where the Playmate Technique shines as one of our most popular offerings.

How breast implants settle over time after breast augmentation surgeryDropping, settling, and “fluffing”, are the most common terms used to describe the single most important phenomenon in breast augmentation surgery.

As the skin beneath the nipple stretches, it allows the breast to take on a rounder, more attractive shape, and also allows the implant to drop or settle into a more natural position. This improves the slope in the upper pole of the breast, and is the final step towards having your true “final result”. For most women, this settling process is 70-80% complete around 3-4 months after surgery, and 100% complete at 9-12 months.

working out after breast augmentationThe majority of our breast augmentation clientele is quite active, so we frequently field questions about getting back to the gym and other physical activity after surgery.

The recommendations for when to get back to the gym after breast augmentation surgery depend on what type of procedure you had, what type of implants you have, and in which position those implants were placed. There is no universal set of guidelines for every breast augmentation patient. The recommendations for each patient in our practice are as customized as our procedures, so if you had your procedure in another office, please consult with your surgeon before following any of the recommendations offered here.

Keep reading to find out when you can get moving again based on the specifics of your procedure…

anesthesia for liposuctionOne of the most common questions we receive in our office is “What type of anesthesia is best for liposuction?”

This is a very important question because there are a variety of options available for a variety of reasons, not all of which have safety and comfort at the top of the priority list. That’s not to say that the more expensive option is always the better option because that’s not always true, but your decision about which anesthesia method to select should not be based on price alone, nor should it be based on the myth that local anesthesia is always the safest method (this is also not always true). The best anesthesia for liposuction should provide a good balance between cost, comfort, safety, and affording your surgeon the ability to do the best job he can so you get the best result possible.

The best anesthesia method will allow all of the above to be possible, so there is no need to cut corners as long as you have the facts. Keep reading to learn more about the anesthesia options for liposuction and other cosmetic procedures…

Keller Funnel No Touch Breast Augmentation by rapid recovery breast augmentation specialist Dr Nicholas Vendemia of MASWe take breast augmentation surgery very seriously here at MAS, and the Keller Funnel is a serious device for women interested in the safest, quickest, and least traumatic insertion technique for breast implants.

The No Touch Breast Augmentation is redefining the standard for safety and sterility with breast implant surgery of all types (breast augmentation, breast implant exchange, breast implant revision, and breast reconstruction), and in our practice we consider it to be the gold standard for all of our breast augmentation procedures. When the funnel is used properly, the implants are transferred directly from the manufacturer’s sterile container into the sterile funnel and into the breast pocket without being touched by human hands or any other possible contaminants, hence the “No Touch” designation. The funnels advanced hydrophilic coating protects the implant shell during the transfer, and allows the implant to pass through a smaller incision (which translates into a smaller scar) in a way that is far less traumatic than finger insertion (which leads to a shorter recovery time).

Keep reading for more information and a video demonstration of the Keller Funnel in action and see how it compares to traditional finger insertion techniques.

Deoxycholic acid injections for double chinATX-101 (also known as Kybella), which is the study designation given to deoxycholic acid manufactured by Kythera Pharmaceuticals, is an injectable substance that kills fat cells and is being marketed as a potential magic bullet for double chins. The product recently got it FDA approval for use in the cosmetic industry, but only time will tell if it proves to be a miracle worker or just another fad that fades from the market as quickly as it surfaces.

The FDA approval means only that the product has not been shown to be dangerous in human subjects, but that does not mean that it will produce a great aesthetic result, or that it will replace gold standard approaches to treating double chins like liposuction, liposculpting, or platysma muscle repairs commonly performed with neck lift operations.

In fact, over dissolving the submental (under the chin) fat may lead to a hollowed central neck and an exaggerated appearance of vertical platysma muscle bands that appear with age. Losing too much fat in the neck can be a very difficult problem to correct, which is why most facial surgeons do not remove as much fat from the neck during facial surgery as they used to several decades ago.

spider vein treatments in NYCWe came across a recent article in the New Beauty Mag blog about spider vein treatments, and since our very own plastic surgeon, Dr. Nicholas Vendemia, does quite a few sclerotherapy injections for spider veins on a weekly basis, we wanted to get his feedback.

We’ve included the full text of the original article so that nothing can be taken out of context, and so that you can get the full opinions of not one, but two experts on this subject… Dr. Downie (the original doc interviewed by New Beauty), and New York Plastic Surgeon Dr. Nicholas Vendemia. After all, two heads are usually better than one.

PIP breast implants Many of you will remember the recent scandal brought on by French breast implant maker Poly Implant Prosthese (PIP) when the company was disbanded and the executives jailed over their unethical practices of using non-medical grade silicone to manufacture their silicone breast implants sold throughout the world.

It is estimated that 30,000-40,000 women received PIP breast implants that may have caused, or may be causing, unknown and possibly dangerous side effects because of the likely contamination of the silicone gel used in these implants. When the story broke, we received quite a few calls from understandably worried women who wanted to know how they could tell if they had PIP implants, and what they should do about it if they did. We removed quite a few pairs of these implants during that time period, and helped several of these women deal with complications like severe capsular contractors, recurrent seromas (fluid collections), and PIP breast implant ruptures, but since that time we’ve noticed a dropoff in both the frequency of these calls, and in the sense of urgency on the calls that still come in.

If you or anyone you know had breast implants place in any country other than the United States in the past 20-25 years, please keep reading for an important reminder about the dangers of PIP implants, and why you should be concerned even if you aren’t sure if you have them…

Woman Calling for a consultationConsultation fees are a hot topic in the cosmetic surgery industry, and since there is so much variability when it comes to who charges, how much they charge, and what the fees actually pay for, I wanted to shed some light on this subject for those of you considering a consultation with us.

At MAS, we do charge consultation fees because we believe that everyone’s time is valuable… especially yours. We treat our consultations like making a reservation for a first-class airline ticket. You can’t reserve your seat without paying the fee, but once it’s confirmed, your spot is guaranteed. You won’t be flying standby wondering whether or not you’ll actually get to make the trip, and you won’t be holding your breath to see who else might be sitting in your seat when you get on the plane. Our consultation fee allows us to reserve your time exclusively for you, and for us to keep wait times to a few minutes or less for over 98% of our visits. You’ll always have a welcoming atmosphere, plenty of time with the doctor, and a seamless, efficient experience from start to finish.

If you want more specific FAQ’s about consultation fees, please give us a call at 917-703-7069 or keep reading to see a list of commonly asked questions about consultation fees…

the best clinical sunscreensThe American Melanoma Foundation is sponsoring an initiative to find more innovative and more effective sun protection products to help decrease the incidence of skin cancer.

It’s nice to see an initiative like this because there hasn’t been much thought in the world of SPF in recent years, and with our ozone depleting, and more of the damaging rays making it to our skin, it’s more important than ever to know how to protect it. The shelves of any Duane Read are lined with so many product choices that it can make your head spin, so anything that can narrow down those choices for us and give us some direction when it comes to sun protection, is a very good thing. If you want to nominate a new product, or if you know someone who is working on such a product, click here for the entry form. The deadline is April 1st, 2015.
